Voice Artist
Due to an early fascination with TV, Michael was the kid who 'did the voices' at school. Including those of his teachers. His experience as a voice artist began as a student when he did a weekly comedy show featuring characters and songs for his college radio station. The comedy obviously landed well, as there was a complaint to The Radio Authority which was dismissed along with a note enquiring 'How do we join the fan club?'
In 2009, Michael finally decided to take all this 'performing nonsense' seriously, and produced his one-man interpretation of the late, great Vivian Stanshall's 'Sir Henry at Rawlinson End' in which he portrayed all 14 characters. This was a risky project. Vivian Stanshall's work is considered sacred by many in the entertainment firmament, not least of which being Stephen Fry. Much to Michael's relief and delight, Stephen judged the work 'excellent' and went on to describe Michael as 'an outrageous talent' after joining him onstage for a performance at the Bristol Old Vic in 2015. The show also gained the approval of the late and very great Neil Innes who described it as 'A tour de force and a work of Art.' Rick Wakeman also came on board, recording a version of the show in 2015 with Neil and fellow Bonzo Rodney Slater and Susie Honeyman of The Mekons.
Since then, Michael has been busy on many projects on stage, screen and on record. He has recorded voiceovers for clients such as Saatchi & Saatchi and Uber Agency involving products as diverse, yet complementary, as pension plans and Cobra beer. Aside from this, Michael also works in production. In 2023 he edited shows for ITN/C5 and co-produced the Top 2 2023 albums in the Independent albums for Madfish Music, from his home recording studio. The studio runs on an industry grade M2 Mac Studio, and with a combination of high-end microphones, software and broadband connection, is capable of providing broadcast standard audio and video in real time.
